Indy Pride expanding annual celebration as some sponsors drop out

INDIANAPOLIS — The largest Pride Month celebration in Indiana is returning for another year, larger than ever, despite a nationwide shift in support away from the LGBTQ+ population.

Indy Pride's Celebration on the Circle will expand to two days, June 14 and The festivities will also main attraction paid concerts on both evenings at the nearby American Legion Mall.

"With the climate that's happening right now, we feel this is the time to be loud and proud," said Tina Robb of Indy Pride.

This year's event is 35 years after the first Celebration on the Circle, which was interrupted by protesters. A marker to the first celebration is permanently installed on Monument Circle.

Past parades featured assist from large companies across the express, but Indy Identity has found it more difficult to find businesses this year.

"It has been a little bit of a question to find the sponsors," Robb said. "We have definitely seen them scale back a petty bit, it's been a hit this year."

Indy Pride announces changes coming to Pride festival

Indy Pride on Tuesday announced a slew of changes for its annual festival, along with a rebranding campaign, in honor of the organization's 30th anniversary.

This year’s Indy Pride Weekend festival will accept place June 14 and

First, the group announced an expanded slate of musical performances for the weekend — a series called Word of Mouth.

The lineup hasn't been revealed, but organizers say there will be a mix of national touring artists and DJs, drag performances, and local and regional musicians featured in the series of performances.

Another change for this year's festivities is a Parade celebration on Monument Circle. Organizers say it's meant to to honor the legacy of Indianapolis’s first large-scale outdoor Pride celebration, which took place on Monument Circle in

The Celebration on the Circle is establish to feature live entertainment and a vendor village. It will be free to the public.
