The Gay Liberation Front was the first LGBT activist entity formed after the Stonewall Rebellion in New York Capital in June By including "gay" in their name—which no other queer company had done prior to the GLF—they signaled to the world their fundamental, unapologetic, anti-assimilationist standpoint. A central purpose of the GLF was to start "a society in which all people enjoy freedom of existence and release to relate to each other in whatever manner they see fit, without fear of oppression or condemnation." While fiercely insisting that the personal is political, they sought widespread cultural revolution where queers and other oppressed peoples would "start demanding, not politely requesting, our rights."

An important plant in the collapse during butterfly and hummingbird migrations, this perennial sometimes requires two years before making a bloom. Strong roots grow down as deep as 16 feet, and will easily cling to any poor, infertile, well-drained soil. Also makes a good cut flower.
You will sometimes hear this awesome perennial called Blazing Star. It is one of our most attractive late summer to decline bloomers across Texas. Many species are found along roadsides in various soils. (Not to be confused with the similar-looking, fussy hybrid found in many commercial floral arrangements, although the feral ones will stay pretty for a while if cut.)
