Lesbian & Gay Pulp Fiction

The Drewey Wayne Gunn and Jacques Murat Collection of Gay American Pulps and the Drewey Wayne Gunn Collection of Gay Male Mysteries and Police Stories are made up primarily of books printed by low-budget publishers in the post-Stonewall era (after ). The pulp novels, mostly from the s, are often pornographic explorations of lgbtq+ male desires.

Many titles celebrate adolescent men discovering their sexuality. Common themes include enjoying queer relationships without dread, coming out with pride, finding passion, creating families and communities, and fighting oppression. Countering these positive themes, pulps also titilate readers by depicting police willing to exploit their power to sexually abuse defenseless men and boys.

In an effort to pass the Supreme Court's new standards, introductions in a number of these books discuss how that particular novel fits within the historical context of homosexuality and why the title is a necessary step in dismantling "sexual repression." Gay Pulp Fiction

The Gay Pulp Fiction Collection consists of over 1, fictions titles in mass market paperback form on male gay and bisexual themes, published from the 's through the 's. It was acquired by the Fisher Library in from collector Ian Young, who used the collection for research for his books The Male Homosexual in Literature: A Bibliography and Out in Paperback: A Visual History of Gay Pulps.

Writers represented in the collection range from Richard Amory to Oscar Wilde, with cover art by artists as diverse as Tom of Finland and Ronald Searle. The analyze potential for this collection is vast, and runs across multiple disciplines: sexual diversity studies, the history of publishing, graphic blueprint, as well as social and cultural history.

While approximately individual titles of the collection are fully catalogued and in the online catalogue, the rest are in an annotated and searchable list created by Young.
