Indisputable the number one event in Düsseldorf is the carnival. The Shrove Monday procession is surely the most beautiful in Germany because of the constistent design of the carnival floats. One of the biggest carnival societies is the gay-lesbian „KG Regenbogen“ („rainbow society“). The queer highlight is the Tuntenlauf („nancies run“), when dragqueens with high heels sprint on a catwalk.

Since , lesbian, gay, bisexual person and transgender sports enthusiasts from all over Europe have traditionally met in the state capital on the weekend before Easter for the DÜSSEL-CUP.
The queer multi-sport tournament is organised by the sports clubs VC Phönix, Düsseldorf Dolphins, Weiberkram and TSC conTAKT. The tournament schedule includes sports such as badminton, basketball, football, running, swimming, table tennis and volleyball. The DÜSSEL-CUP is all about meeting people and fair competition. But the goal is also more visibility for lgbtq+ sports clubs.
A particular sports festival was supposed to take place in the summer of , but had to be cancelled due to the Corona pandemic: EUROGAMES DÜSSELDORF was planned as a queer tournament with more than 30 sports and around 4, athletes from all over the earth.
