Let’s clear things up: what is Gay Days, exactly?

To begin, let’s clear up a common misconception. Many online articles and blogs don’t correctly explain what Gay Days actually refers to. Even fewer comprise the full array of all there is to do during a Same-sex attracted Days / Disney Self-acceptance event.

Let’s learn some fast history!

Since at least , LGBTQIA+ folks have been meeting up — via their own community-organized events — at Disney parks. They simply called it Gay Days.

The name stuck.

In the late 90’s, an event organizer incorporated the name Gay Days Inc. and trademarked their URL. Today, they’re just one of many professional companies that hosts events, parties and meetups during various weekends in Orlando and Anaheim. Some are free and open to the public, others are ticketed and held in secret venues.

These events often overlap, so they compete a bit for visitors and attendees.

Gay Days at Disney World and Universal

At least since the late s there was always two different groups organizing events around gaydays.
The Gaydays proper group that organizes the red-shirt day and has its host hotel (usually a smaller less fancy one).
and then the party group that labeled the weekend "One Mighty weekend" with another set of events and host hotel. The host hotel for this team used to be the Lake Buenavista Palace (now a Hilton I believe).
"One Mighty Weekend" used to organized the largest parties with thousands of people including the infamous party on Friday at Typhoon Lagoon.
Then there was even Parliament Home which at the time also had rooms and their retain set of events.
I went to One Mighty Weekend a couple of times and did all the parties, Typhoon Lagoon, the after hours, etc, etc. It was a blast.

Pride Month is almost here, with the entire month of June dedicated to the celebration and commemoration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans person and other sexualities.

The "Gay Days" event will make its annual return to Walt Disney World and other Orlando theme parks next week for LGBTQ+ people members and theme park lovers alike.
